The focus of Hillsboro Technical Operations (HTO) is Drug Product manufacturing (Component Prep & Compounding, Liquid/Lyophilized Filling, Automated/Manual Inspection, Packaging/Finished Products and Distribution.)

Your role:

As Head Engineering, Science and Technology (ES&T) you enable and empower your team to deliver our vision through embedding PTGs new ways of working, demonstrating VACC (Visionary, Architect, Coach, Catalyst) leadership behaviours and focussing on Asset and Process Life Cycle Management, proactively reducing asset related cost, increasing their overall availability and efficiency whilst maintaining their high compliance.

You serve both, our patients and our employees in the value streams on site by developing and implementing process improvements, foster the dialogue and collaboration between global functions in development, innovation and regulatory and align across other Roche manufacturing sites. You will be part of the Site Leadership Team and report to the Site Head.

You will lead the following functions: (1) Engineering Services (2) Lifecycle Management and Maintenance (3) Process Controls; including Process Engineering, Validation, Forensics, Value Stream Support, and Technical Services (4) Operational Technology/Automation (5) Operations: including Tank Management and Utilities.


  • Strong creative leadership skills according to Visionary, Architect, Coach, and Catalyst (VACC) model and shown ability to build forward -thinking outlook; remove barriers, develop people and technical capabilities; build an environment which enables people to perform at their best

  • Develop and communicate organizational strategies, which ensure the GMP compliance of the site, continuous improvements and achievement of long-term goals

  • Lead, coach, and guide the organization. Manage performance and development of the members of the Engineering, Services, and Technology Unit to achieve organizational goals and employee personal and professional growth

  • Build a strong pipeline of talent and robust succession plans for key positions.

  • Have a firm understanding of people practices including hiring, promotion, compensation, mentoring and coaching and apply these in order to shape the site culture. Provide training of personnel on company and department policies systems and processes by understanding the end to end view

  • Be the champion and advocate for Engrained Quality at the Site

  • Build a culture of continuous improvement and model lean leadership principles


  • Partner with the Site Head, other Site Leadership Team members, and site employees on strategic business direction and decisions

  • Build and maintain strong partnerships with other site and network leaders to assure alignment around strategic projects and day-to-day activities and to assure mutually successful working relationships

  • Builder of an ambitious shared vision and purpose, create an environment where people are allowed and encouraged to collaborate with one another in service to the vision

To be successful in this role, you bring along the following skills/qualifications:

  • Bachelors Degree required (engineering or science) - Graduate Degree or MBA is preferred

  • 15 or more years work experience in the pharmaceutical or related industry with at least 6 or more years of people and project management experience and 4 or more years facilities management, engineering, or related experience in the pharmaceutical industry

  • Dedication to serve and delight internal an external customers, passion for developing people and shaping a new organisation to deliver on the Pharma

  • Experience in collaboration and project management in cross-functional teams and high interface competence and good leadership skills in a matrix organization

  • Familiar with manufacturing and business processes at a site; understanding of the opportunities and challenges within the network

  • Able to think strategically and translate strategies into actionable plans

  • Good assertiveness in a global environment and a continuous approach to improvement

  • Proven ability to coach and implement lean ways of working

  • Strong creative leadership skills according to the Visionary, Architect, Coach, Catalyst (VACC) model.

  • Understands and applies agile ways of working.

  • Excellent communications skills in English and the ability to effectively communicate and influence across all levels of the organization
