Duties & Responsibilities

MSC is searching for a IT Network Administrator to provide support to the National Institutes of Health (NIH). This opportunity is a full-time position with MSC and it is on-site in Baltimore, Maryland.

 

  • Install, configure, operate, maintain, and optimize networking equipment including, but not limited to Cisco SourceFire IDS/IRP, Cisco Nexus 5672 and 9000 series switches, and Cisco C3650 edge switches
  • Know of networking, including experience implementing switch stacks in an enterprise environment, subnetting, implementation of network access control on edge switches and creation/modification of VLANs to modify network infrastructure
  • Configure and implement network printers
  • Test fiber connections using fiber testing equipment
  • Know routers and intrusion detection/intrusion prevention systems
  • Assist with managing complex network projects, preparing project plans, contingency plans, objectives, and schedules, all within provided resources
  • Troubleshoot and remediate network connectivity issues in all areas of the Institutes IRP programs, including the VoIP system
  • Troubleshoot desktop connectivity issues in all areas of the Institutes IRP
  • Assist in developing network standards and processes for maintaining a sound network architecture and infrastructure
  • Provide potential solutions to mitigate downtime for critical infrastructure within existing resources
  • Securely configure, implement and maintain HP-branded servers with Windows-based server products and services, such as Active Directory configuration and maintenance, print services, dhcp services, and authentication services as requested
  • Securely configure, implement and maintain HP-branded storage solutions, such as 3PAR storage
  • Configure and administer secure file services on all devices, including the implementation of encryption to meet federal security mandates
  • Securely install and configure *nix-based servers
  • Securely install and configure network attached storage devices, such as QNAP and Buffalo
  • As needed, draft systems security packages and prepare them to be assessed by security officials within the Section
  • Draft new policies and procedures for the related security systems, ensure compliance with applicable Federal regulatory requirements
  • Evaluate established policies and recommend new methods or procedures if needed
  • Collaborate with other section staff to conduct periodic and continuous reviews of IT systems and assist with the maintenance of proper documentation
  • As needed, assist with information assurance, cybersecurity requirements, and enforce managerial and operational security controls in accordance with principles established by NIST

Requirements

  • Bachelors Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or other related field.
  • Minimum of four (4) years of experience supporting network systems.
  • Experience with Cisco components, including Cisco SourceFire IDS/IRP, Cisco Nexus 5672 and 9000 series switches, and Cisco C3650 edge switches.
  • Experience developing and executing project plans.
  • Detail oriented and organized; able to understand network evaluation criteria and be exact in assessments.
  • Must be able to effectively interact with staff on complex client/server problems.
