The School of Nursing has an outstanding opportunity for a Lead Payroll Coordinator.  The Lead Payroll Coordinator is a key member of our School of Nursing Human Resources and Payroll Services team.  Having extensive knowledge of payroll processes and procedures, the person in this position will lead processing of bimonthly payrolls accurately and on time. The Lead Payroll Coordinator will help maintain a collaborative atmosphere to ensure accurate, complete and timely payroll transactions, reporting and analysis in compliance with university policies as well as state and federal laws. This individual will be able to make independent judgments within established limits, exhibit a willingness to challenge the status quo in order enhance services and improve processes.

Provide daily oversight of semi-monthly employee payroll process while ensuring accuracy and adherence to UW policies, practices and deadlines
Review, and verify payroll reports and documents for accuracy; make necessary adjustments as needed, in consultation with the department/unit administration and school HR.
Lead efforts to ensure accurate and timely completion of grant-related reporting, including responsibilities payroll certificate reports (GCCRs) and Faculty Effort Certification (FEC).
Act as a subject matter expert and/or resource to others in the areas of employee payroll and reporting and analysis.
Identify and lead development of new procedures and policies related to payroll operations
Serve as a liaison to central payroll systems administration (ISC) and school-level HR and department/unit administrator to problem-solve and develop best practices
Provide mentoring to Payroll Coordinators positions through knowledge of firm guidelines and best practices in payroll entry, reporting and analysis.
Serve as the primary payroll point of contact for the School of Nursing.
Coordinate and lead response to school and university level data and reporting requests.

A Bachelors Degree with major study in accounting, business administration, or related field and two years of work experience as a Fiscal Specialist II or Budget/Fiscal Analyst, or equivalent combination of education/experience.

Additional Requirements:
Experience working in a diverse setting with persons from different racial, ethnic, socioeconomic, and cultures, along with a demonstrated commitment to inclusive thinking and application in the work environment.
Supervision experience with an internal-customer support team
Experience overseeing day-to-day payroll activities in a complex environment
Experience with process standardization, documentation, communication and continuous improvement.
High proficiency with use of computers including applications such as MS Office, Excel, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and proprietary systems
Experience using HRIS systems to complete payroll and similar transitions.
Experience with identifying payroll reporting needs and creating ad hoc reports from multiple sources; analysis and ability to synthesize data and communicate with multiple levels
Demonstrated ability to multi-task, prioritize work and manage heavy workload with frequent interruptions.
Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Effective interpersonal skills to interact with diverse groups in a team environment.
Proven ability to proactively and independently solve problems in both routine and urgent situations.
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Experience which demonstrates consistent attention to details and accuracy of work.

Supervision experience in a higher education setting
Experience with UW systems (Workday and My Financial Desktop)
Financial/budgeting experience in a University or research setting.


A set weekly schedule has been designated for this position and will be agreed upon at hire. At times of high productivity, early morning, evening AND/OR weekends may be necessary to accomplish position and SoN responsibilities.
