Our PATIENT FINANCIAL SERVICES department has an outstanding opportunity for a full-time PATIENT ACCOUNT REPRESENTATIVE LEAD.

The PATIENT ACCOUNT REPRESENTATIVE LEAD will work closely with supervisors. Participate in interviewing applicants and training and orienting new employees to the department. Provide feedback to supervisor for employee performance evaluations, corrective action plans and training plans. Review work and provide instruction to improve efficiencies and accuracy in account resolution and to ensure compliance with established procedures. Liaise with patients, payers and UW Medicine entities and affiliates to resolve complicated billing issues. Answer questions from staff; identify and resolve problems or unusual situations; recommend changes as necessary. Monitor and evaluate policies and procedures to suggest operational changes. Participate in and/or lead special project work.  Perform Patient Account Representative duties to cover for absences and prevent backlogs.

This position is responsible for regularly assigning, instructing and checking the work of Patient Account Representatives, training and orienting staff, providing feedback on employee performance. Identify and resolve complex accounts for timely resolution of the patient account in its entirety.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist in the establishment of standards, policies, and procedures

  • Assist with development and maintenance of billing and follow up reference documents

  • Respond satisfactorily and timely to requests and questions

  • Coordinate with supervisor in assigning, reviewing and monitoring quality and timeliness of work and identifying training needs of Patient Account Representatives

  • Assist in orienting and training new staff and retraining current staff

  • Analyze and review appeals and provide feedback to Patient Account Representatives

  • Participate in the PFS closing rotation

  • Participate in special projects

  • Serve as a Super User for system upgrades and changes

  • Assist Patient Account Representatives with obtaining information necessary to obtain retroactive authorizations including letters of medical necessity

  • Understand and interpret complex requirements and be able to prioritize and manage updates from multiple sponsors, both federal and non-federal.  Maintains up-to-date knowledge of requirements

  • Work collaboratively with other UW Medicine Departments

    REQUIREMENTS:

  • High School graduation or equivalent AND three years of experience in patient accounting, customer service or a related office environment. OR equivalent education/experience.
