Northrop Grumman Innovation Systems Division is currently seeking a **Deputy Chief Engineer** for our **Hypersonic Programs** team to support the Multipurpose Boost Demonstration (MPBD) program in our Propulsion Systems Business Unit at our **Promontory, UT and Bacchus, UT** campuses.

**Role Description & Responsibilities:**

The MPBD Deputy Chief Engineer will be responsible for all aspects of the technical execution in the development, certification, production, and test of the second stage air launched hypersonic missile in support of the Raytheon MPBD prime contract. Portions of the motor are produced at both Promontory and Bacchus, with the cases being manufactured in Clearfield. The second stage thrust vector control (TVC) and actuator Control System (ACS) are produced out of Elkton, MD. Since this second stage motor is produced in multiple locations with team members located across the country a high level of coordination is required. This role will report to the Hypersonic Programs Chief Engineer. While this is a deputy position, the job requires directing the engineering team with limited oversight by the Hypersonic Programs Chief Engineer.

**Job Duties:**

+ Serve as final design authority for the MPBD second stage rocket motor (SSRM)
+ Provide overall leadership, direction and applicable management to the Project Engineering team (to include coaching team members, resolving conflict, reviewing performance, and initiating corrective actions)
+ Act as a technical focal point for the customer ensuring customer satisfaction with all technical efforts including participation in customer and government review boards
+ Provide judgement/direction on the technical adequacy of design, analysis and testing activities
+ Drive coordination and integration of team members from Promontory, Bacchus, Elkton and San Jose, ensure the design is properly integrated between all facilities and drive consistency between the engineering productions produced by each facility
+ Work on problem solving and failure investigations of technical issues
+ Drive timely and clearly communicated decisions and recommendations
+ Work closely with the Program Manager to manage technical execution of the detailed program plan
+ Manage cost and schedule for the technical effort on the program
+ Work with Science & Engineering functional management to assure proper technical support
+ Provide technical direction on contract changes and Statement of Work negotiations
+ Drive technical excellence (by upholding technical standards for project, managing technical risks, supporting cost goals, and ensuring requirements compliance)
+ Champion company values, including safety, best practices and continuous improvement

**Skills & Qualifications:**

+ A working knowledge of the design and production of many solid rocket motor components
+ Demonstrated experience with problem solving, problem investigation teams and critical decision making skills
+ Strong understanding and broad application of PSD engineering systems (engineering standards, configuration management, material review board, process control, tooling, facilities, software, etc.)
+ Demonstrated experience in generating technical solutions in the absence of complete customer requirements
+ Management of engineering scope as it pertains to budgeting and participation in EAC reviews
+ Strong sense of urgency and work ethic in ensuring engineering meets customer and program expectations in a timely and efficient manner
+ Strong verbal and written communication skills including demonstrated experience with high value customer presentations
+ Demonstrated team leadership skills - leader of significant technical projects or investigations and management of multiple program tasks to schedule and budget Experience with the proposal process
+ Ability to qualify for DOD secret clearance
+ Excellent time management and organizational skills
+ An understanding of program management practices: establishing and executing to budgets and schedules

**Qualifications:**

**Experience Requirements:**

+ Candidate must have a minimum of 10 years in solid rocket motor design and manufacture experience.
+ Supervisory: Candidate must have a minimum of 2 years of formal or informal supervisory/ management/ team management/ leadership experience
+ Ability to travel: Travel expectation of 5% - 10%
+ Strong understanding of solid rocket motor system design, development, and manufacture

**Experience Preferred:**

+ Engineering leadership experience in solid rocket motor development, qualification, and production cycles
+ Demonstrated credibility with internal and external customers
+ Proposal technical volume lead experience

**Education/Certifications:**

+ BS degree in Engineering or related field required, MS preferred
+ PhD with 9 years experience, MS with 12 years experience, or BS with 14 years experience
