PMT is a global leader in providing customers with high-performance specialty materials, process technologies and automation, and technologies and materials for petroleum refining, gas processing and petrochemical industries.
UOP Controller role will be responsible for all aspects of accounting (including accounting policy, financial reviews and reporting, controls and processes, and business support) at the UOP Strategic Business Unit of Performance Materials and Technologies (PMT) segment. UOP is a global supplier of process technology, products, engineered systems and technical services to the petroleum refining, petrochemical, gas processing and energy industries and is a leader in the research and development of petroleum and petrochemical processing. 
The role will use accounting expertise in revenue recognition and other complex areas such as restructuring, business combinations, contingent liabilities, and internal control and process implementation and operational oversight. This position is based in Des Plaines, Illinois, a suburb of Chicago and reports directly into the PMT Global Controller.
Position Responsibilities:
  • Lead reviews of key non-standard, judgmental, and sophisticated transactions during the monthly close process
  • Lead all aspects of monthly reviews related to project EAC€™s, reserves, contract assets and liabilities including unbilled, advances and deferred accounts and ensure related internal controls are operating effectively 
  • Partner with business CFOs to assess overall business performance on project executions including risk assessment and early warning reporting 
  • Coordinate key monthly account reconciliations, journals, reporting schedules 
  • Lead analytical, balances sheet, and account reconciliation reviews of UOP reporting entities globally (balance sheet and P&L)
  • Partner with the business in reviewing accounting and financial reporting implications of significant transactions (e.g. sophisticated project accounting, outstanding licensing/royalty agreements, and other customer contracts, etc.)
  • Provide accounting support on sophisticated transactions to senior leadership, including President, General Managers, CFO and Finance Directors 
  • Lead pre and post-close process and effectively communicate insights and results to senior management 
  • Collaborate with the business on pivotal initiatives, including identifying cost optimization actions, growth and restructuring opportunities 
  • Champion and lead initiatives related to process standardization, automation and internal control improvements 
  • Coordinate the implementation of action plans related to internal control deficiencies 
  • Coordinate quarterly and annual external financial reporting processes and deliverables 
  • Lead quarterly management representation letter and certification processes 
  • Oversee impact assessment and implementation of accounting standards
  • Lead all aspects of accounting, control and process integration for newly acquired businesses
  • Support special projects/pivotal initiatives as required
  • Ability to travel (up to a week per month) and flexibility on mobility required for future roles
    You must have
    • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance 
    • CPA (or equivalent) required 
    • 9+ years controllership/audit experience 
      We value
      • Experience in multinational public accounting firm (preferably the Big 4) with service to mid or large cap public companies or role in Corporate Controllers organization at a Fortune 500 Company

      • Able to work both independently and collaboratively with the business as a team member 
      • Ability to lead priorities and drive improvement in execution 
      • M&A and integration experience a plus
